Amazingly talented and versatile actor. Very little available by way of biographies or insights into the man/actor. Ran across this and snarfed it up. Good reading.

The 'missing' Ansible Manual

This is a fantastic book that will absolutely give you all of the knowledge and actually usable examples to make you an ops rock star! I keep it on my phone and computer so that when I am in the office architecting solutions, I can refer back to some of the wonderful examples of Vagrant and WordPress or Drupal provisioning, dynamic AWS inventory, and so many more that have made me feel like I could do anything with Ansible. This is the best book or even resource out there for Ansible, get it if you are even considering Ansible or are looking for some great examples of what can be done now in ops that makes this area so exciting!

This book is a "must-read" for those who are interested in Anisble or automation (and it's palatable for any skill-level)!

Jeff absolutely nailed Ansible with this book. He has a very down-to-earth, yet informative writing style that I can [personally] relate to. The written content is simple enough for anyone to feel pretty good about Ansible after reading through the first 4 chapters of the book. But going further, the book is also written to be a useful research tool as well, since there are real-world examples to help you get get a solid framework on how to get things done in different ways. The beauty of Ansible is that it's not ridged, and it allows you to be slightly expressive and to use it in different ways. I'm hooked on Anisble after reading this book (thank you Jeff), and I am using Ansible daily as a result.

I think if an author hears one positive thing about his writing, they like to hear that they've impacted the reader in some way. I can definitely say that my experience [with this book] has positively impacted my daily workflow, and I'm suggesting it to anyone else who is looking at Ansible. This book is a must read!

Great book, great writer

Great book, great writer, knowledgeable, very easy to follow along. I really recommend this book for anyone interested in Ansible or DevOps in general. Only reason why is not receiving full 5 stars is because the book is not updated for Kindle but the book is updated in the some other providers.

An Interesting, Easy-To-Read Overview

Loaded with pictures and maps, this cultural atlas of Russia is an excellent quick reference. Written concisely, it recounts major events/rulers in Russian history, putting them in perspective with regards to European history and, at least for me, clarifying some confusing areas (e.g. "The Time Of Troubles"). As a history major in college, I studied Russian history, but had forgotten many details. Was most pleased to discover this atlas and the easy-to-follow, refresher course it provided. Atlas is written in a reader-friendly fashion, easy to pick up after an interruption, and I expect it would be as interesting to a first time student of Russian history as it was to me.

outstanding work

This is a spectacular book. The historical coverage is broad and reasonably deep; the illustrations and explanatory sidebars are fun and well constructed; and the maps are a wonderful complement to the text. It was just so complete! Glorious period photos on every page: Trotsky, Stalin, Lenin, Alexander II. Stunning works of medieval and modern art. Unfortunately, the trailing atlas-style section was a bit weaker than the rest of the book, even if the photos were excellent. Albeit, I still think the photographic characterization of Moscow was trite: enough photos of the Kremlin and St. Basil's!

The information presented in this book is fabulous. I love the pictures as well. It's a great coffee table book if you just want to leave it out. And it looks great on a book shelf as well. However, as another reviewer already noted, the binding on this book is horrendous. Just taking it out of the shipping box and reading the first couple of pages was too much for it to handle. The cover is already nearly ripped from the book, and the individual pages are all falling out. I tried putting it back together with some glue, but it didn't work. It just keeps coming apart. It seems deplorable to charge so much for a book that will not even withstand a single reading. For this reason, I gave the book five stars for the info, but no stars for the construction. I split the difference and came up with the 3 star rating.

In short, if you just want the info and don't care how the book looks after your reading- go for it. But, if you're like me, and prefer your books to be in good, presentable shape, then no dice. It's just not worth it.

About the Author
Teri Shors received her doctoral degree from Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona. Following her doctoral degree, she served as a post-doctoral fellow under the direction of Dr. Bernard Moss in the Laboratory of Viral Diseases, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. For the past ten years, Professor Shors has been a Professor of Microbiology at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh where she teaches introductory microbiology, virology and molecular and cellular biology. She has authored peer-reviewed research papers in virology. Her research specialty is poxviruses. She was the principal investigator or co-principal investigator for a Merck/American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and several National Science Foundation (NSF) grants, including a grant to develop and write an undergraduate virology textbook to better prepare students for the rapidly changing field of viruses and viral diseases. She is a recipient of a University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Distinguished Teaching Award, an Endowed Professorship and is a Wisconsin Teaching Scholar. She serves on the American Society for Virology's Education and Career Development Committee. Professor Shors has presented at scientific and educational conferences consistently throughout her career. She has led a number of cross-disciplinary projects at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh that have received national recognition.

Required for a class, pleasant and informative.

Full of applicable and easy to understand examples. Makes the material interesting and doesn't have that awful elitist tone many highly technical science textbooks are plagued by. Wonderful illustration and color to make it a bit less tedious to read.

In spite of the book being well suited to the lay person reader, the material is still very in depth, accurate, and current.

Beautiful and excellent schemes/cartoons!! In some chapters, the text should be more rich in details and pathogenesis, such as in the chapter of Papillomaviruses. I indicate for graduate students but NOT to virologists or to whom interested in details about viruses. The beautiful schemes are very didactic for class teaching...

I am a senior in an undergrad molecular biology program and this book was required for my virology class, and it really is a great book. Very easy to read and understand. It isn't written as dryly as many other biology textbooks.

In November, Kate Vitasek and a team of co-authors released Strategic Sourcing in the New Economy: Harnessing the Potential of Sourcing Business Models for Modern Procurement. Vitasek is best known for her Vested Outsourcing series a books, which are responsible for helping professionals in all functions see the potential of outsourcing relationships aimed at accomplishing a new, more value-oriented type of result. While the Vested books naturally appeal to a procurement audience, you would hardly say that procurement is the main character. We appear in little more than an occasional walk on role – not central to the plot and not particularly memorable.

The contrast between procurement’s role in the Vested series and the fact that we now have a book dedicated to our perspective and objectives is striking. While the Vested Way is open to all, clearly we seized an opportunity that has now led to a book all our own.

The big shocker of the book – you might want to sit down for this – is the belief that the Porter’s Five Forces and Kraljic models are no longer well suited to the goals and objectives of a modern competitive enterprise. Michael and Peter are out. Their strategic models, which were revolutionary in their time, overly emphasize the need to build power relative to one’s business partners. Before you feel too badly about this change in circumstances, it is fair to point out that the models were introduced in 1979 and 1983 respectively. So, 37 and 33 years ago. They had a pretty good run, but it does seem logical that we should revisit our guiding principles every 3 – 4 decades or so.

Enter ‘Sourcing Business Models’ from Vitasek and team. There are 7 Sourcing Business Models, defined by the authors as “the combination of two critical concepts: the contractual relationship framework you use to work with your supplier (transactional, relational, investment based) and economic model you use (transactional, output, or outcome based). Because the encompass a wide range of approaches on the sourcing continuum, the models and outcomes vary significantly. More importantly, there is no one fixed center point – such as power – that leads to homogeneous results across the models like you might have with either Porter or Kraljic.

If there is a downside to Sourcing Business Models, it might be that procurement has too long been overly dependent upon models in general. We had a strategic sourcing process, until we follow it like a checklist and it became tactical. There is a risk that this is replacing one model addiction with another, but it is still an improvement. And if any change comes from this, perhaps it will be the lesson that we should revisit the models we use every 5-10 years rather that 30-40.

In fact, one of my favorite quotes in the book, from Luke G. Williams, executive director of innovation and entrepreneurship and professor of marketing at New York University’s Stern School of Business, is “Disruptive innovation is not just about following a process. It represents a mindset – a rebellious instinct to discard old business clich�s and remake the market landscape.” If we assume that the authors agree with this sentiment, we have to think that they fully expect to see their models evolve or be replaced as circumstances require.

Like the other books involving Vitasek, Strategic Sourcing in the New Economy is chock full of case studies – really good ones, where the companies are both identified by name and recognizable. An additional resource that I particularly like are the ‘Recommended Reading’ textboxes throughout the book. Not only do they make it easy to connect with additional information on each topic, their availability calls attention to the need to move on and do your own research to make the models and concepts your own.

If you only buy one book on strategic sourcing this should be it

The perfect ending to a perfect love story

I simply loved The Edge of Always. I was truly satisfied with the end of The Edge of Never but am glad that J.A. Redmerski gave us more Andrew and Camryn.

This sequel is clearly Andrew's story although there are alternating POV's throughtout. I loved getting more of their story even though they are dealt some more heartbreak.

But in the end this is the story of a beautiful, almost perfect love. Andrew Parrish has remained one of my top 5 bbf's for a reason. He lets Camryn be Camryn. No matter what, he is by her side and supports her 100%. And it's never a sappy kind of devotion. It's the kind of devotion that lasts a lifetime, that makes you know that this will be the couple that lives to their 80's or beyond and die within hours of each other because they simply cannot live without each other.

I really enjoyed getting an update about Natalie and Aidan and Asher and getting that glimpse into the future seeing how they all continue their lives.

Andrew and Camyrn's road trip was yet another great journey and I'm so glad to have been able to read about it.

I cannot recommend this book enough. It was the perfect continuation of a love just so incredible.

Its not the Edge of Never, 3.5 stars

Im having a hard time with what to rate this book although it wasn't horrible it wasn't great either. I wish we could do half stars on our rating, I would give this a 3.5. First off I love Andrew and Camryn for that reason alone I would give it high marks. However this book fell flat for me especially with the anticipation of it. It started off really slow and I was hoping it would pick up. It seemed like it was headed that way then it just sort of droned on and on. Also the road trips was just long and boring except for one really bad incident. Which I just thought was not really needed. There were definitely some memorable parts and great interactions between Andrew and Camryn, and Andrew was as yummy as always. I really wished it was a little steamier and just had more of something.... Small ****spoiler alert**** I also did not find the whole having to live free and on the move all the time very realistic. I love that they are both free spirits but it drove me crazy that they kept alluding to the fact that those who make a home in one spot have something wrong with them and are destined for unhappiness. Ultimately the book was more about Camryn and her feelings and what she was/is going through. I love Andrew and I love the way he loves Camryn and wants to give her the world, but it was like he never got to grieve over the miscarriage or even reflect on the fact that he almost died.

This one's hard to write. I truly liked and enjoyed a lot of this story, but felt a little like bits & pieces throughout, and then the end petered out. Or something. The story stays true to the Andrew & Camryn I fell in love with in The Edge of Never, for the most part. Andrew Parrish has to be the most supportive dude in book history. I mostly like Camryn, but she can be trying sometimes! I can't place my finger on any one example of why I feel that way about her, tho! Part of this storyline is SUPER sad, but the journey is great! And it was a lot of fun going on Cam & Andrew's latest adventures with them! : ) But then, the end... Okay, so, some of the adventure-time felt too drawn out, and then the last few chapters felt a bit too "fast forward wrap up." I like where JAR was going w/ the last few chapters & epilogue - EXCELLENT idea there. Just wasn't quite so fussed about the execution of that excellent idea.

Still, this was enjoyable & if you want more Cam & Andrew after the SUPERB Edge of Never, then I definitely think you should give this a read.

There are many excellent parts in this book, it should prove useful for the newcomer to SQL server development.

This book aims to get the newcomer started in SQL Server development, how does it fare?

SQL Server is one of the most popular databases in the world, so breaking into this area should be rewarding. This book is targeted at the beginner, it should also be helpful to others wanting to improve their database knowledge.

Below is a chapter-by-chapter exploration of the topics covered.

Chapter 1 What Is SQL Server?

This chapter opens with a brief review of SQL Server’s history, from the original Sybase/Microsoft offering through to SQL Server 2014 – and the major features of each version are listed. Next, the major components of SQL Server are briefly described (e.g. database engine, SQL Agent). Business Intelligence (BI) components (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS) are briefly described – these allow the import, analysis and reporting of data.

The chapter continues with a look at the various editions of SQL Server, highlighting their major features. The chapter ends with a brief overview of some useful SQL Server tools including: SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT), Configuration Manager, and SQLCMD.

This chapter puts SQL Server into context, its history, editions, and tools are briefly described. There’s a very good point about buying the developer edition of SQL Server, this gives enterprise functionality at a cheap cost.

The chapter is easy to read, starts with the basics, and has good explanations and discussions. The author has a relaxed manner – including some humour, and gives positive feedback, which should be reassuring for beginners. Subsequent chapters have useful screenshots, step-by-step walkthroughs, and helpful T-SQL code. These traits apply to all the chapters of the book.

Conclusion

This book aims to get the newcomer started in SQL Server development, and succeeds. It is mostly easy to read, with good explanations, discussions, screenshots, T-SQL code, website links, and practical step-by-step walkthroughs. Additionally, the author provides a humorous dialogue, and positive feedback, which should be especially useful for the beginner.

In some parts, this book could have been clearer and simpler, with fewer tables, and less scripts changes (very repetitive). Since it is an introductory book, it would be useful to have a section on where to go next for further information (e.g. newsletters, blogs, websites).

There are many excellent parts in this book, it should prove useful for the newcomer to SQL server development.

About the Author
Having sold millions of albums worldwide and garnered four Grammy Awards, Lil Wayne is one of the most successful and critically lauded artists in hip hop. He released his first project at the age of twelve and went on to release his first solo album in 1999 when he was just seventeen. He released his first installment of his legendary Tha Carter series in 2004 before releasing three others, including the landmark Tha Carter III in 2008. Lil Wayne also holds the record for the most entries on the Billboard Hot 100 chart by a male solo artist with 109 entries, having surpassed the record previously set by Elvis Presley. His most recent studio album, I Am Not A Human Being II, was released in 2013 and debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 charts. In 2015, Wayne released FWA (Free Weezy Album) exclusively on Tidal, where it was streamed a staggering ten million times within the first seven days alone. It's great for what it is. A daily journal in the mind if lil wayne. I love the cover and the pages as it reflects it is a jail journal. There is some good insight into his mind and some funny stories. It has def made me realize I never want to be in jail lol.

Interesting read. Lil Wayne gives the reader a brief overview of what jail life is like for a superstar such as himself. If you are a Wayne fan this will surely entertain you and even provide a few laughs.
